CreaTV to Host the Alliance for Community Media's Conference at Open San José
CreaTV San José is hosting the Alliance for Community Media’s (ACM) Conference from June 25-27 at their state-of-the-art facility, Open San José.
The 18,000 square feet community hub, strategically designed with multi-purpose rental spaces, stands as an ideal venue for the conference. With its advanced technological infrastructure and vibrant ambience, Open San José promises to provide an engaging environment for all attendees.
“Open San José is a new creative space in Downtown San José put together by our member organization CreaTV – and it represents an exciting example of community building for non-profit media across the United States,” said Mike Wassenaar, President and CEO of the Alliance for Community Media. “We’re excited to celebrate that success in San José.”
The facility offers an affordable space to host small to mid-sized conferences, such as the ACM, with the revenue from the event rental directly benefiting discounts given to nonprofits and community members who utilize the venue.
The ACM Conference in Open San José will bring together over 300 community media practitioners to celebrate the work of community media organizations. Attendees can look forward to interactive workshops and discussions across 30 sessions featuring 70 speakers. The sessions will cover various topics from broadcast engineering, community storytelling, and workforce development to media literacy and beyond. Keynote speakers include Jesikah Maria Ross, a Community Engaged Journalism Consultant, and Suzanne St. John-Crane, the CEO of American Leadership Forum Silicon Valley.
Chad Johnston, CEO of CreaTV, stated, “CreaTV is very excited to host the Conference at Open San José. What better way to celebrate the work of community media organizations than to host it at Open San José, which is a unique community resource for creating, convening, and learning. Open San José is designed to bring community members, nonprofits, and change-makers together to learn and create, and we are going to do just that.”
Additionally, the conference will offer tours of the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC), San Francisco tourism stops, and the Internet Archives. The event will culminate with the 2024 Hometown Media Awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 26th, at the Improv Theatre, honoring the most creative programs distributed on Public, Educational, and Governmental (PEG) access cable television channels.
