Family Class: Youth Storyboarding and Filmmaking
Unleash your family’s creativity in our engaging Storyboard and Beginner Filmmaking Class! Designed for families of all ages, this hands-on workshop invites you to explore the art of storytelling through film. Together, you’ll learn the fundamentals of visual storytelling, from storyboarding to beginner videography.
Families will work together to create a unique storyboard that captures their imagination. With guidance from experienced instructors, participants will gain practical filmmaking skills, including shot composition and camera techniques.
At the end of the course, each family will have the opportunity to showcase their mini film, celebrating their hard work and creativity. Whether you’re seasoned storytellers or new to filmmaking, this class promises both learning and unforgettable family memories.

The internet offers huge amounts of information at our fingertips, including through news outlets and social media. Anyone can create and publish information through various online sources, and algorithms consistently influence what content we are exposed to.
How do we sort the legitimate news from false, misleading, or opinion content? How can we identify whether content has been created by invested parties or artificial intelligence? These skills are relevant to those trying to make sense of an ever-changing digital landscape and who are working towards being informed digital citizens.

Combined Camera Basics
This class is designed to teach you the basics of using a JVC 500 video camera and Sony A7lll camera. We'll cover essential topics such as how to adjust settings like aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, as well as how to compose and capture well-exposed videos and images.
If you're looking to become more comfortable with these cameras, this is the class for you!

Roses to Reels
Join SVBC and CreaTV for a FREE, family-friendly ride to CreaTV's HQ in Downtown San Jose for a free screening of "Bicycle Thieves"! This short and slow guided ride will begin at the beautiful Municipal Rose Garden (whose roses should be in full swing in May!) before meandering along San Jose's Better Bikeways West to East routes to enjoy some coffee/snacks from San Jose's very own Nirvana Soul.
After our quick pick-me-up, we will finish our ride with the short jaunt (.5 mile) to CreaTV's HQ Open San José, where we will be watching a screening of the cult classic Italian screenplay from 1948, "Bicycle Thieves". After the movie, we will lead a guided ride back to the Rose Garden.

This intermediate-level class is designed for individuals who have some experience with video cameras and want to take their skills to the next level. We'll cover advanced techniques such as manual focus, white balance, exposure control, and audio capture, as well as exploring different shooting styles and angles to create more dynamic and visually interesting videos.
Additionally, we'll discuss how to select the appropriate codec for your specific project, ensuring the highest quality output. By the end of the course, you'll have the skills and confidence to create professional-quality videos and take your video production to the next level.

Intro to Premiere Pro
This hour and a half introductory course in Premiere Pro is perfect for those who have already completed our basic course in Premiere Rush, have some basic video editing experience, as well as individuals who are comfortable navigating new digital interfaces.
In this class, you'll learn how to use Premiere Pro to create engaging and professional-looking videos, from importing and organizing footage to adding transitions, effects, and audio. By the end of the course, you'll have the skills and confidence to start editing your own videos in Premiere Pro.

A 2-hour course where students will learn the essentials of shooting content using a smartphone camera. Whether you are looking to create short-form videos for social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, or other channels, students will leave this class with a solid understanding of mobile filmmaking.
While this class primarily focuses on production techniques using smartphones, it will also cover DIY lighting, camera angles, and proper exporting formats for various social media platforms. Students will leave with newfound confidence in their filmmaking abilities and be eager to create engaging content for their audiences.

Vertical Cinematography
A 2-hour course where students will learn the ins and outs of shooting content for a vertical format. Whether you are looking to shoot on your mobile device to post on social media sites like TikTok or Instagram, or on a more robust camera system like a Sony or Canon for commercial purposes, students will leave this class with a better understanding of all things vertical cinema.
While this class is majority focused on the production and shooting of vertical content, techniques for handling vertical footage during planning/pre-production and editing/post-production will also be touched on. Students will leave this class with newfound confidence in camerawork and will be eager to try out some of the new abilities and tricks they have picked up.

DIY Lighting
When it comes to creative projects, it's easy to get overwhelmed. It can feel like you need special training and expensive equipment to get superior lighting in your photos and videos. We're here to tell you that's not true!
DIY Lighting offers a crash course in lighting to give you the basic skills to elevate your projects. This class is modeled to use everyday objects to their fullest potential in your studio, wherever that happens to be!
Join us for an afternoon of learning, collaboration, and hands-on experience. No need to bring anything but your phone, your creativity, and your lovely self!

Editing Photos in Lightroom
In this 2-hour course, students will learn the basics of photo editing through Adobe’s premiere editing software, Lightroom. Topics covered include basic editing skills like exposure manipulation and composition theory to advanced techniques like optics control and color theory.
Although not recommended for first time editors, students are also encouraged to bring in a maximum of 1 example they wish to edit and would be able to follow along and edit their creation in real time.
By the end of the class, students leave the space with profound techniques and tricks that will not only make editing photos in the future more enjoyable and fun, but also elevate their own photos for social media, content creation, or any other avenue of work that requires photo editing.
