Open San José Now Offering Lower Rates for Community Events

We’re in our third year of welcoming community into Open San José and boy, have we learned a lot in those few years! One thing I’ve encouraged us to do is to lead like water. When we learn new things or conditions change, as an organization we try to shift just like water does when a branch falls across a stream.  

For many of us working in community and with nonprofits, the world changed in January, 2025. It certainly did for CreaTV as we lost approximately 15% of our expected revenue, and we saw this happen with many of our partners. In times of scarcity, our instinct is to retreat, look inward, and hold on to what we have in order to survive. However, in times of scarcity and struggle, the most powerful thing we can do is ban together and collectively support one another. That is how we build power and how we win.  

We know that in these times it’s more important than ever to have affordable, safe, and accessible spaces for community to gather, build, and convene. Open San José was built and designed for that purpose, and we’ve learned with you that the cost of finding a safe venue is sometimes just out of reach. In that spirit, we have chosen to reduce our rates to make Open SJ more accessible for you to perform, gather, create, and imagine the world your community wants to see. We have also streamlined and simplified our processes to get an event in the door, so it’s easier for you to focus on the work you want to do.  

When we support one another as a collective, we all win. Our power is in our partnership. If you’re reading this and are interested in using Open SJ for an event or gathering in 2026, reach out by June 1st and mention “Collective” and you’ll receive an additional 10% off our new reduced rates for one event.
